Business Challenge:  Business Thesis Assessment & GTM Strategy

 

An early-stage start-up looking to make in-roads into the Indian skin care and nutraceuticals market consulted Elevate Insights to guide them via consumer insights towards their launch strategy. They wanted to validate their business idea, providing product and positioning guidance and answer many specific questions from a marketing guidance.  

 

Elevate Approach: Decoding Product-Market Fit and Insights to bridge gaps

Given the width of client questions a typical approach would have required 3-4 separate and large pieces of work. However, like for any start-up, they had limited budgets and timeline.  

Just like our consumers and clients, our toolkits are agile and efficient. 

 

  • Explore & assess: We leveraged our proprietary deep qualitative market research toolkit “Human” to explore the category needs, uncover the attitudes and needs around beauty and skin care. Our tool also allows us to assess the consumer response to their business idea in the same study. We helped them fine-tune their business proposition as a consumer product concept for this early stage assessment. 

 

  • Size & validate: We also mapped the category usage via a diagnostic quantitative survey in terms of product penetration and frequency,  brand share across key product categories; usage of nutraceuticals as well key skin conditions, key ingredients, and claims that consumers trusted keeping in mind the decisions they needed to take.

Key Insights Areas:

  1. Sharply mapped their business thesis vs areas of consumer resonance as well areas of discomfort given the deeply rooted beliefs around skin care.

  2. We sized the underlying drivers of the category to estimate the size of prize of key positioning anchors. 

  3. We could guide them to alternative positioning ideas and suggest a product strategy for launch to improve share of market and adoption.

  4. We could answer specific questions on GTM, pricing, media strategy.

"Do MICA buildings speak?" and such deliberations started Ruchira's life-long-love-affair with the art of decoding and building brands at India's first-of-its-kind advertising, brand-building school, Mudra Institute of Communication, Ahmedabad (MICA)

Her first study on beauty for Unilever led to the creation of the Lakme Beauty Salon business. A 2-year stint in the US managing global cross-cultural work for technology majors Intel, and Microsoft provided her rich exposure to research toolkits & global best-practices.

As Director Insights at Pepsico, Ruchira has experience of over a decade in defining marketing consumer strategy and insights for Pepsico's local lovemarks such as Kurkure; Nimbooz as also global brands Lays, Pepsi, Tropicana, Quaker across business units in South Asia, APAC and Global Insights; with many noteworthy brand-campaigns such as "Change the Game", and innovations like Kurkure Puffed.

Before starting Elevate Insights, Ruchira was VP, Consumer Insights at Swiggy. Her passionate belief in the immense power of consumer insights in shaping business and brand strategy led to the creation of Elevate Insights
